WELCOME TO THE AUSTIN MILLER STUDIO

My studio/gallery overlooks Lake Superior near where I was born. The Lake is magnificent in its power and beauty.   Lake Superior has the capacity take your breath away, to stop all thoughts, and put you squarely in the moment. That’s heady stuff for a painter.

I paint because it nourishes my soul. In watercolor there is a tremendous feeling of peace as its fluid nature leads you down the creative path.  Painting with watercolor opens the gates and sets the imagination free, bringing forth a powerful element of who we are.

The majority of my images are watercolors. I’m fascinated by the luminosity of the washes, the shimmering white of the cotton paper, and the transparency! You can't get that in oil.
I also use other mediums: hand printed collage papers, transparent acrylics and I paint on silk with steams set dyes.

My workshops  center on the objective of mentoring students to find and develope their individual passion for art. Since 1992, I have facilitated annual shows featuring hundreds of paintings from workshop participants. During our many international and national journeys, we have formed life long friendships, made fabulous memories and have a tremendous amount of fun.

Thank you for visiting the website. I hope you will visit the gallery in person!
