Welcome to the Gallery!![]() Studio entrance, c'mon in, always welcome.
Established in 1986, the AUSTIN MILLER STUDIO & GALLERY represents my 30 odd years of painting primarily watercolors. Artists are naturally drawn to areas rich in history and of great beauty. Bayfield, Wisconsin certainly has plenty of both. Standing on the studio deck, I pinch myself while viewing the startling blue water of Lake Superior. I was extremely lucky to have been born 20 miles from where I live and work. I had great parents, who came north from Woodstock, IL, to settle on the Lake , and raise their family. Like most artists, I have worn various career hats (often two at once). When the mother of all hats, motherhood, landed squarely on my head, I just wanted to stay home and paint. |

My husband (of 32 years now) was agreeable, and soon became an important part of the business. From hauling watercolors out of art fair rain, stocking galleries, cutting mouldings, to schlepping 60 lb case glass up the stairs, (a studio "above it all" seemed a great idea when I was 32 years old!), he is a true partner. Besides, when someone that important in your life believes in you, well, there's serious inspiration in and of itself.
Our daughter Trisha Miller grew up in the Studio, is now a graphic designer in Boulder, CO, and makes us look pretty sharp through this website, rack cards, show cards, book covers, print ads, posters, the list goes on. She will work for a plane ticket home!
Besides the painting process, (which is fine way to spend your time) the folks I meet in the gallery or through residencies, workshops and shows, fill my life with great memories and friendships.
